  • Monster Plaice caught off the beach at Pevensey Bay

Pevensey angler John Craig got more than he bargained for during a recent Aqua Club beach match when he landed a monster Plaice. After having a big pull down bite he struck but the line went slack. He decided to reel in anyway and there seemed to be nothing there at all, it was only when he got his end tackle to within 20 yards or so of the beach that it suddenly became very heavy.

When he saw the fish, which weighed in at an impressive 4lb 6oz, he was gobsmacked. It was very thin and some estimated the fish would have gone to over 6lb if it had been in prime condition.

The fish is an Aderida club record and is the biggest shore caught Plaice for many years along this stretch of coastline.
